While cleaning out my girls' closets one day, I was getting rid of dresses that were too small but still in nice condition. One was special to me as my daughter wore it to her aunt's wedding. It suddenly begged me to make it into a doll! I had to! There was no way around it, I made it into a doll that looked like my Jo. And I couldn't stop! My husband got mad because "Why do we have dolls all over?! We are trying to downsize and besides, you don't even like dolls!" but his arguments made no difference: I kept making them. And with that sudden burst of creativity, that calling from a dress screaming to be released and made into what it really needed to be, my shop was born.
Well, reborn. Once upon a time, many moons past, I tried my hand at selling on Etsy but I didn't really have a niche at that time, I was just making random things. Then I started spinning yarn and I sold that at the farmer's market for a few years, that was a good venue for me. During those years I learned and grew, grew and learned, evolved and kept trying new things. When the inspiration hit to try something new, I would try it. Sometimes it would stick, sometimes it wouldn't. Then one day a dress screamed at me and now here I am, months later, still in love with my Jo Memories Dolls. I hope you love them too.
